Parenting 101: Preparing Your Child for College

Middle school is a wonderful time for kids. It is a time that they discover romantic love. They get to enjoy the thrill of being behind the wheel.

As a parent, it is an excellent time to help your child find their career path. They might have had some dreams in the past. But they might have changed their mind.

Preparing Your Child for College

With your guidance, they can achieve whatever they want to be. All we have to do is to find out what they want. Does she want to be a doctor? Or do they have a passion for math? Let us uncover what it is.

Accountancy

Kids often imitate their parents. They look up to us as their superheroes. They will likely follow in your footsteps.

If one of you is an accountant, you might want to decipher if they want to follow the path that you have taken. AICPA (American Institute of Certified Public Accountants) has stated that there are several career options for those who pursue a degree in accountancy.

An accountant can pursue a career in banking. Their background in finance will help them understand how banks work. They can also be the bank employee who advises clients on what stocks to invest. Accountants can also work in a brokerage firm. They can help their clients manage their portfolios.

They can also try working in the public sector. The most obvious career path for an accountant is the IRS. Employees in this government agency earn their salt by dissecting tax returns.

Your child can also pursue a law degree after graduating from accountancy. It is an excellent pre-law course because of the numerous law subjects – from contracts and obligations to corporate law.

History

If your kid has shown great passion for history, you can encourage him to take up a course on history. A historian’s life is not limited to the classroom. If you fear that history will confine his growth, they can take up archaeology to quench their thirst for adventure and knowledge.

You can also encourage your child to pursue his love of history and artistic talent by studying art history. Kate Middleton, the Duchess of Cambridge, has a degree in this field. Another notable persona who specializes in this degree is Sir Simon Schama. He is the host of several BBC programs such as The History of Britain and The Power of Art.

Medicine

Dr. Anthony Fauci has recently become a pop culture icon. After his steadfast determination to protect the American people from the Covid-19, he has won a following. Your child might want to follow in his footsteps.

Your child might want to take up a pre-medicine degree in medical technology or any other medical field. If they still want to pursue medicine, they can do so. They might even want to study a specific branch of medicine.

They can choose not to have any specialty. Or they can opt to focus on a specific branch such as pulmonology or pediatrics.

When they have finished medical school, they can take up pathology. This branch of science is dedicated to the study of the body. They are usually the cool characters in any police drama.

If you brought your children to love pets, they could also pursue veterinary medicine. This course will help them channel their innate love of animals and make it into a profitable enterprise. You might want to encourage such a career by letting the whole family watch Bondi Vet.

Engineering

If your child loves solving math, you should encourage him to take up this course. Engineering is one of the courses that heavily relies on math. Several innovators came from the line of study.

One of the most notable engineers in history is John Smeaton. His scientific concepts helped develop modern cement. Another visionary is Henry Ford. His creation helped build the America that we now know.

If your child has previously joined robotic competitions, you might want to inspire him to take up robotics engineering. He might someday lead the automated world. He can also pursue other fields of engineering, such as civil engineering or mechanical engineering.

Your child’s preparation for college should not be limited to academics. You must equip them with the emotional mechanism to cope with the new challenges in life. Doing this will help them succeed in any endeavor.

With your direction, they can be whatever they want to be. They can become musicians or the next President of the United States of America. They will achieve their dream with your love and support.
